A separate care program

Your concerns are valid. Your care should be personal.

Vitality After Dark is our dedicated sexual wellness program, not simply an add-on to hormone care. Corinne Curran, FNP-C, offers evaluation and treatment for vaginal dryness, difficulty with orgasms, and erectile dysfunction, as well as discussion of decreased libido and decreased sex drive.

These concerns can have more than one cause. We start with your experience, health history, medications, and goals—not an assumption that you need hormones. Treatment options exist, but the appropriate plan and any need for specialist care are determined after evaluation.

Understanding the changes

Let's talk about it

Vaginal dryness & discomfort

Dryness can cause irritation, burning, or discomfort with intimacy. Lower estrogen around menopause is one possible cause, but dryness can happen at other ages, including during breastfeeding. Some medications and irritants can also contribute. [2]

Depending on the cause, care may include vaginal moisturizers, lubricants, or prescription treatment after evaluation. Persistent pain or irritation deserves attention rather than being something you simply put up with.

Erectile dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction means difficulty getting or keeping an erection firm enough for sex. An occasional difficulty is different from an ongoing problem. Persistent changes can involve blood vessels, nerves, medications, stress, or other health conditions—not only testosterone. [1]

Evaluation may include your health and medication history, an examination, and testing when appropriate. Treatment options can include addressing underlying conditions, lifestyle support, counseling, prescription treatment, or devices. The right approach depends on your health.

Difficulty with orgasms

Orgasm timing, intensity, and frequency vary from person to person. Difficulty reaching orgasm—or a change from your usual experience—can relate to stimulation, medications, physical health, stress, or relationship factors. It is worth discussing if it bothers you. [3]

Care begins with understanding what has changed and what you want help with. Options may include reviewing medications, addressing discomfort or underlying conditions, and referral for sexual-health counseling or other specialist support when appropriate.

Decreased interest in sex

Decreased libido and decreased sex drive can affect anyone. There is no single normal level of desire. Stress, fatigue, pain, relationship changes, medications, and physical or hormonal changes can all play a role; low desire does not automatically mean a hormone deficiency. [4]

If a change in desire is distressing, a provider can help explore the contributors and discuss options. Your comfort and goals—not someone else's expectations—guide the conversation.

When not to wait

Arrange medical care for persistent sexual pain, a sudden or ongoing change in function, or bleeding after sex or after menopause. An erection lasting more than four hours needs emergency medical attention. This page and the care quiz are not for urgent care; call 911 for a medical emergency.
